Description

Yearling Wood lies on a north facing slope overlooking the River Teifi and the charming town of Llandysul. With good access, this a woodland perfect for any aspiring woodsman to cultivate and shape the development of a piece of beautiful South Wales countryside.

Access into the woodland is just down from Farmyard Nurseries, directly off the Dol Llan road and via a private entrance.  A short section of stoned track enables parking off the road and is perfect to use as a staging post when working in the woods. Internally, there is relatively limited access due to the profusion of plant life, but a few animal tracks and signs of old farm access tracks exist, that could easily be opened up to create machinery or pedestrian access.

Yearling comprises of mixed broadleaves, naturally self-regenerating, mostly silver birch and pedunculate oak, but dotted throughout are also the occasional hawthorn, beech and sycamore. Under the canopy of the trees is the usual mix of woodland vegetation - bracken, bramble, ferns, creeping ivy, mosses, and fungi. There are signs that foxes and the occasional badger wander through the woodland, and grey squirrels were seen scampering up the trees on our visit.

Between the tree cover there are lovely views of the river Teifi as it meanders through the countryside and on to Llandysul. Yearling Wood is on a north facing slope, with a few flatter areas dotted throughout, and once cleared, would be perfect for pitching a tent for a bit of wild camping.

All in all, this lovely young woodland is a great investment, with plenty of opportunities for a new guardian to help it flourish, whilst providing a healthy amount of firewood and making a great base for recreational activities. 


If It Were Mine

I would clear a footpath along the southern boundary - the highest point - and remove some of the undergrowth as this would be a great place to create a little campsite or put a bench and enjoy the tranquillity of the setting.

I would also look to clear some of the bramble and bracken and plant some alternative tree species - beech has been seen to grow well nearby so could be a contender or a couple of fruit trees would likely do well too.

Residential Planning Permission

You are extremely unlikely to get residential planning permission for this woodland.


Directions & Access

  • Head southwest out of Llandysul along the main road, King Street then Wind Street, directions to the B4336/A486.
  • Go past the Cligwyn Arms pub on the left hand side and cross the bridge over the River Teifi, then take the next left.
  • Pass the Nisa shop and the Shell garage, both on the right hand side, and turn left onto Morris Terrace (Highway Garage is at the junction).
  • Continue for approximately 1 mile, when the road will narrow to a single track relatively quickly, and about halfway along this road you will pass the water treatment facility on the left.
  • When the road starts climbing steeply and veering to the right, just before the top of the road and on the right hand side, you will see a pair of metal gates with a Woods4Sale sign (point A on the plan below).
  • Park in front of the gates or in the layby just below the gate.
  • Climb the gate or walk around the side (sorry, we do not provide keys for viewings) and you are in Yearling Wood.

Boundaries

  • The north and east boundaries are the edge of the woodland, with a raised earth bank with trees growing on it (please note the fenceline is believed to be inside the boundary of the woodland).
  • The west boundary is the edge of the woodland next to the main road which is in part indicated by an agricultural fenceline.
  • The south boundary is indicated with yellow paint on trees and posts.
