Description
Ridge Wood can be found in an incredibly secluded and peaceful location south of Llanidloes and east of Llangurig. Situated in a shallow valley, it is surrounded by rolling farmland and woodland that offer lovely, uninterrupted countryside views. The current owner believes this to be a Dark Sky area, presenting outstanding views of the stars on cloudless nights due to the very low light pollution levels.
One of the other standout characteristics of this property is a beautifully and lovingly handcrafted woodland shed (built via permitted development consent) and a composting toilet. The 3 room shed offers a workspace, storage space and an area to shelter from the worst of the weather while managing the wood.
Three ponds have been created around the shed to allow the runoff water from the woodland to collect and form a unique habitat for this area. A small bridge has been created between 2 of these ponds and much of the immediate surroundings have been landscaped to create a very peaceful and pleasant setting to relax.
The woodland primarily consists of Sitka spruce, oak, ash, rowan and silver birch. The majority of these were planted in 2008/2009 following a clear fell of the previous conifer plantation. Our client has owned the land since then and has carried out some additional planting, primarily Scots pine, western red cedar as well as the occasional beech that serve to improve the diversity and therefore the resilience of the woodland. Most of these trees are growing well and there has been a recent intervention by the landowner to thin out some of the spruce to allow the remaining to grow on.
Access to the woodland is off a public highway to the southwest and then along a stoned farm track to the edge of the woodland which should be perfectly suited to most vehicles. Ridge Wood is immediately inside a shared wooden gate and the northern boundary of the woodland includes a stoned, if slightly overgrown, stone track that runs the full length of the boundary. Next to the shed is a cleared space, big enough for a couple of cars.
Ridge Wood represents a lovely investment, something that will only appreciate in value as the trees grow larger. It is also a wonderful place to spend some quality time, whether it is stargazing, employing woodland and conservation management, family camping trips or just spending time outdoors with nothing but the sounds of the countryside, this woodland has it all.
All offers must be made by 12 noon on Friday 19th May 2023. Please follow the ‘How to Buy’ link for the information required to ensure your offer is considered.
If It Were Mine
I would continue the good management of the woodland, gently thin the trees as they get older, carry out some supplemental planting in the gaps, perhaps create some footpaths to make it easier to get around on foot. The ponds might be large enough to be stocked with small fish which would add further diversity.
Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
