The pretty hamlet of Straiton dates back to the 1760s. It lies in the heart of rural southwest Scotland midway between Maybole and Dalmellington (being 7 miles from both). It is just over an hour’s drive from Glasgow and half an hour from Ayr.  

The Buskin Grazings are attractively located just to the east of the village. The fields are sheltered by mature woodland to the north and gently rising ground to the south. They have a warm and sunny south-westerly aspect with gentle slopes.

The grazings are of unimproved grassland punctuated by rushes, and a stream bisects the fields giving year-round water. Most of the stream is fringed with trees - principally alder with minor elements of willow and ash plus plenty of hazel. As well as being an attractive feature they also provide useful shelter for livestock. The entire perimeter is surrounded with serviceable stock fencing.

As well as offering grazing this property could be considered for woodland planting. The site is fenced, reasonably drained and thanks to the underlying brown earths has good fertility for a wide range of native species and commercial conifers.

This property also has a strong amenity element. It is sheltered but enjoys long views westwards. It has water and a small element of woodland that could be expanded. Access is excellent with road frontage and an area of hard-standing at the entrance to the property.

Directions & Access

The small village of Straiton is a seventy minute drive south of Glasgow, located midway between Maybole and Dalmellington at the junction of the B7045 and the B741.

From the centre of Straiton (opposite the Black Bull Hotel), head north taking the B741 Dalmellington Road. Continue on this road for exactly 0.6 miles when you should pull in to park on an area of hard-standing on your left (A on plan).

Climb the gate into the Buskin Grazings to your right.


The north boundary (ABC) is the woodland edge defined by a stone wall and stock fencing.

The southeast boundary (CD) is the roadside stock fence.

The southwest boundary (DA) is the roadside stock fence.

The hard standing area (A) is within the ownership of the property.

Sporting Rights

The sporting rights are included. They are not let.

Mineral Rights

The mineral rights are included except where reserved by statute.

Rights Of Way

A right of access AB to a width of 8m from the fence is reserved to the adjacent owner including the right to form a stoned track. If developed, use of this track would also be available to the Buskin Grazings with shared maintenance according to use.
