Description
Eltringham Wood lies near the base of a hill at the extreme western edge of Prudhoe on north-facing ground. The town centre is one mile to the east. The A1 at Newcastle is about a 15-minute drive.
The wood is designated as Ancient Woodland and is dominated by a variety of mature broadleaves including oak, ash and sycamore giving way to willow and alder on the lower northwest edge. Beneath this is a patchy understorey of woody shrubs including holly and hazel.
Eltringham Wood benefits from frontage to Eltringham Road and also has a useful area of hardstanding adjacent – ideal for parking or small volume timber processing.
Some work is certainly needed to optimise this wood but you will be hard put to find another of this size and price anywhere in England.
If It Were Mine
I would clear some paths through the wood to improve internal access and look at harvesting the ash stems which are sadly diseased (as they are throughout the country)... the upside being that ash makes top-quality firewood.
A few bird boxes would encourage the local avian population.

You are extremely unlikely to get residential planning permission for this woodland.
Directions & Access
- The B6395 cuts through the middle of Prudhoe in an east-west direction.
- Follow the B6395 west to the edge of town near its junction with the A695 bypass.
- 200 metres before reaching the junction turn sharp right onto Eltringham Road.
- Follow the road downhill for 200 metres.
- Eltringham Wood is on your left after the second switchback (point A on the plan).
Boundaries
- The east boundary (AC) is the roadside verge.
- The northwest boundary (BC) is believed to be the line of an old fence.
- Other boundaries (AB) are identified by garden and field fences.
Sporting Rights
The sporting rights are owned and included in the sale. They are not let.
Mineral Rights
The mineral rights are excluded from the sale.
Rights Of Way
- Access is taken directly off Eltringham Road.
- A public footpath cuts the southwest corner of the wood.
