Dere’s Copse lies on the northeast edge of a larger conifer woodland set amidst the sweeping landscape of the Northumberland Moors a short distance outside the National Park boundary. The attractive villages of Ridsdale and West Woodburn are minutes away. Both have good pubs. A twenty minute drive south gets you to Corbridge. Newcastle is a forty minute drive to the southeast.

The north part of the property is populated by a small stand of Lodgepole pine and Norway spruce. These maturing stems are in fact the result of an unharvested Christmas tree crop. To the south the larger part is now rough grassland from where the Christmas trees were harvested.

The property enjoys excellent access thanks to the recently constructed hard track which runs along the entire west boundary. This track is readily accessible to 2WD vehicles but is of substantial construction and well able to support timber extraction. There is a useful parking spur within the trees at the north end.

Dere’s Copse contains an attractive mix of woodland and open ground. Add in the wonderful setting with good access and its appeal is self-evident. Dere’s Copse would make a great base from which to explore the surrounding countryside.

SAFETY NOTE. The vicinity has been mined including parts of the adjacent woodland. While there are no reports of mines or entrances in Dere’s Copse itself, the historic mining plans are not exhaustive. Please take extra care when viewing.

If It Were Mine

The sheltered parking spur offers real scope as a base for recreation in a caravan or camper. The adjacent open ground invites enhancement, either by planting some native broadleaves or by cultivation and enrichment of the round flora.

A small deck with views to the east would also be a tempting proposition.

Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
