Set within a quiet larger woodland, Dingle Wood sits in an elevated position with splendid views looking out over the outstanding Cotswold Hills and the bustling town of Dursley. Dingle Wood is a charming place occupied by grand mature beech trees and is located in a lovely spot away from the hustle and bustle.

This wood has an uncluttered feel influenced by the high canopy of oak, ash and sycamore that have been clearly well managed. Visiting the wood there was a familiar aroma of wild garlic, the floor is scattered with ferns and the display of bluebells in the early summer makes this wood a lovely prospect. Amongst these trees is an understorey of holly, hazel, sycamore and ash at different stages of growth. You will also find one or two yew, good indicators of a thriving woodland ecology.

This parcel of woodland forms part of a larger wooded landscape that is accessible directly off the council road and along a track that leads all the way to the far side of Dingle Wood. Within, is a further track leading away from the footpath to a secluded area overlooking the wider wood, suitable for camping and appreciating this great space.

If It Were Mine

I would thin out some of the poorer trees and put some protection on any emerging saplings to encourage the next trees through. A rustic woodland shelter would be useful and provide somewhere to have a cuppa and enjoy the superb surroundings.

Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
