Description

Glovers Wood is a marvellous broadleaf woodland situated among a wider forest on the southern fringes of Surrey. Only a 5 minute drive west of the attractive village of Charlwood and just over 6 miles from the M23, makes it highly accessible from the capital.

Part of a priority habitat and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), it is home to a good blend of mature oak and ash with some fine examples of hornbeam coppice dominating the woodland scene. Also taking advantage of the fertile loamy clay soils are a number of holly, birch and hazel coppice scattering the understory. This attractive mix would look a delightful spectacle during the warmer months with the sunlight seeping through the canopy onto the bluebells

Local wildlife populations of roe and muntjac deer can be heard moving amongst the wood with birdsong echoing through the magnificent hornbeam.

Glovers Wood provides a perfect environment for day trips away, escaping the stress and strains of busy life, inspiring the family young and old about wildlife and the woodland habitat. It could also be managed by the aspiring weekend woodsman, perhaps providing a little fuel for the family homestead.

The plot is reached via an attractive long avenue flanked with dagger leaved rushes and crossing over a meandering stream and into the woodland plot.

If It Were Mine

Making use of the open areas for a weekend or two camping with friends and family is a must and possibly learn some woodcraft. I would also take advantage of the fuel supply and create a small firewood stock for the family hearth.

Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
