Description:

Turret Wood lies on the southeast edge of a larger woodland area that was felled and replanted in about 2004. A Forestry Commission survey of Turret Wood and the adjacent woodland in December 2011 confirmed it to be well stocked (average >3,500 stems per hectare) with all grant obligations fully met and discharged. 

After felling the previous conifer crop, the site was cleared and replanted with a variety of native hardwoods and shrubs including oak, ash, rowan and hazel which are now established and growing solidly. The planted stock has since been consolidated by naturally regenerated birch, rowan and willow. Occasional Sitka spruce and Lodgepole pine have arisen from the seed of the previous crop adding further to species variety and landscape diversity. The density and variety of species present now gives opportunity to steer the future development of this young woodland.

A former small quarry on the northwest edge has flooded to become a willow-fringed pond. There is clear scope to enlarge and enhance this feature.

The wood is served by an excellent newly-upgraded hard track which links from the public road to private vehicular pull-ins at both ends of the wood (C and E on the plan).

Sitting at the junction of forestry and farmland amidst the beautiful rolling countryside of rural Ceredigion, Turret Wood enjoys an open outlook to the south across fields and woodland and offers an attractive and manageable slice of South Wales at a very modest price.

Directions & Access:

The village of Plwmp is situated almost midway between the coastal towns of Aberaeron and Ceredigion (Cardigan) on the A487. From Plwmp head south on the minor county road signed for Ffostrasol. After exactly two miles you will see a conspicuous radio mast on the west side of the road.

Please park outside and clear of the gates to the radio mast. These gates are in constant use and may be locked at any time without warning. Please ensure all gates are closed at all times.

From here, viewing is on foot via the bridleway gate to the right of the main radio mast gates. Cross the area of hard-standing to a second gate on which there is a Woods4sale sign. Enter the woodland area at this gate and fork immediately left looking down a long woodland ride. Turret Wood is everything to the left of this ride.

The northwest boundary is the southeast side of the ride marked by red-topped posts.

The southwest boundary is at the edge of taller established conifers as marked by green-topped posts.

The southeast boundary is the field edge fence.

The east boundary is the fence on the boundary with the radio mast.

The woodland comes with the benefit of full sporting rights. They are not let.

Mineral Rights:

The mineral rights are included except where reserved by statute.

Access, Rights of Way & Third Party Rights:

There are no public rights of way within the property.

There is a general right of way to the property from the west gate (ABCDE on the plan). There is also a right of way for forestry purposes via the east gate by the radio mast (EF on the plan).

Maintenance of all tracks is shared according to use.
