An attractive woodland of Sitka spruce from 1994 within a mosaic of mixed broadleaves and fringed with mature beech. Just 20 minutes over the hill from Scotland’s oil capital with immediate roadside access and commanding rural views westwards to Bennachie.

Tertowie Wood was restocked with Sitka spruce 18 years ago. A considerable amount of natural regeneration of broadleaves occurred round the fringes at the same time resulting in an attractive mixed woodland including silver birch, rowan and beech. The wood is almost entirely fringed by mature beech stems.

Tertowie is on a gentle north-westerly slope. With farmland to three sides and a slightly elevated position it benefits from extensive views out including a fine western panorama towards Bennachie.

Access is excellent with direct road frontage onto the public road on its western boundary. As a ‘preferred timber haulage route’ this road offers excellent links to the many timber markets in northeast Scotland. The wood also benefits from a car pull-in on the private road running up the eastern boundary which affords excellent access to the wood.

Whilst the spruce promises a longer-term timber crop, this property also has undoubted amenity appeal. Removal of a few selected stems would enhance the internal glades with the prospect of excellent woodland recreation.

Roe deer, badgers and red squirrels have all been noted in the wood. Woodcock, pheasant, roosting wood pigeon and flocks of geese also offer the prospect of some rewarding shooting.

Head northwest from Aberdeen on the A 96. After passing the village of Blackburn on your right, turn left at the next roundabout signed for Tertowie and Westhill. Continue south for half a mile. Cross the narrow bridge, negotiate the sharp right and left bends and after a further 100m fork left up the track. Tertowie Wood is on your right. Park in lay-by some 70m up this track on your right (C on plan). Please ensure you park clear of the road which serves other properties.
