| Description: | Pleasant Wood occupies a commanding position at the western edge of a substantial broadleaved woodland within the Clwydian Range ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The majority of the woodland is composed of beech trees on freely-draining fertile limestone soils. The characteristically clean forest floor associated with this species, coupled with the tall clean beech stems themselves gives the wood an open cathedral-like feeling. Diversity is maintained by a peppering of other species across the wood including birch, ash, oak, holly and the occasional conifer. Woody shrubs such as hawthorn and hazel are lightly scattered in the under-storey (especially toward the northern boundary). Aside from the south and west edges, the wood has a gentle southerly aspect affording good access across the site. This will facilitate future management as well as enabling freedom to enjoy the undoubted amenity that this wood affords. The hardwoods contain substantial growing reserves of timber, but they equally offer the prospect of long-term retention for landscape, habitat and recreation. The site is accessed via a well-found but moderately steep track (DF) on plan which is best negotiated by 4x4. The wood includes a further 4x4 track on its southern edge (FH on plan) which could readily be extended north into the centre of the wood if desired. |

| Directions: | From the west Go straight over the Four Crosses crossroads and continue a further 0.8 miles. Just after the final house at the end of the tarmac, you will see the track into the wood on your left, marked by a public footpath marker post. You are advised to leave your car back at a lay-by on the tarmac road and walk down this track, through the gate at C on the plan and then follow the track up-hill to the right to the entry gate at F. | Boundaries: | The north boundary is marked by green-tipped marker posts. The north section of the west boundary is the west edge of the remnant track about 3m outside the woodland fence. The south portion of the west boundary (south of the orange tipped posts) is the fence itself. The south boundary is the south edge of the hill track (FH on plan) and then blue-tipped marker posts (HI on plan) along a forest ride. The east boundary is the east side of the track. |
