Wantyn Dyke Wood is an interesting little valley woodland sheltering in the Sarn Hills on the border between Powys and Shropshire. It contains some fine Larch specimens (both European and Japanese) as well as huge variety of broadleaved trees of a very wide age range. Broadleaved tree species include Ash, Poplar, Oak, Sycamore, Alder, Willow, Hazel, Birch and Mountain Ash. Prolific natural regeneration is quickly filling up any open spaces, and occasional Douglas Fir trees add to the colour and landscape.

A stream runs down through the middle of the woodland from south to north, and is fast flowing in winter. The hard track leading down from the first gate ends at the edge of the stream. The hard track leading from the second gate crosses the stream and continues along the far bank, emerging lower down where a caravan is located. We are informed that the caravan is in reasonable condition, and is included in the sale.

The track that runs along but outside the eastern boundary is the route of the Kerry Ridgeway. This is an ancient drovers and traders path that runs from Kerry village all the way to Bishops Castle, through some spectacular countryside.

Sarn village sits on the A489, about 7 miles east of Newtown.

In the village you need to take the turning south that runs along the side of the school.

About 0.6 miles down this road you take the second turning right at a red telephone box.

Drive 0.4 miles up this narrow road to where the tarmac road ends at a bungalow called Cwm Melangell.

Wantyn Dyke Wood begins on the right hand side of the road immediately after Cwm Melangell bungalow, and point A on the plan below.

From here you continue straight on up the stone-surfaced road. This is passable for two wheel drive cars, but easier in 4x4’s.

After about 20 metres you will see a wooden gate with our For Sale sign attached. This is point B on the plan below.

Further up the road you will pass through a gateway and into an open space. The wooden gate in front of you is point C on the plan below. This gate takes you down to the bridge, and then on to the caravan.
