Artists Wood is an interesting mixture of conifers and native mixed broadleaves. The mature Larch and Scots Pine are intimately mixed with Birch, Oak, Alder and Willow, and there are many large mature Oaks and Sweet Chestnut trees. There is a large open area in the south west of the property that adds an interesting diversity. Some parts of this area have been planted with broadleaves in tubes, but the larger part remains open and unplanted.

There is an all-year stream running through the woodland. This has all the associated wildlife and plant species to be found in woodland riparian zones, greatly adding to the conservation habitats to be found inside Artists Wood. The stream runs through an area of land that forms a natural depression. With a modest amount of work this could be used as an excellent location for a small lake.

There is potential for a new owner to manipulate the tree species by careful thinning, which could open up the woodland as well as greatly benefit the remaining trees. A useful supply of firewood could be harvested by such a thinning operation.

The woodland is classified as Ancient Woodland, which means it has had continuous tree cover since 1600. It is full of wildlife including owls, hawks, buzzards, woodcock, a multitude of songbirds and many Fallow deer.

The access to the woodland is along a good hard forest track to the main entrance (point C on the plan below) and then up a grassy track to the south west corner.

Artists Wood has other woodland on two sides and agricultural fields on the third.

Leave Royal Tunbridge Wells on the A267 heading south.

About 1 mile after you leave the built up area of the town you will see a sign for Tate Fencing on your left. Turn into their gateway and then stay to the right of the fencing sales yard, driving into a car park.

Park your car here. At the far end of the car park you will find a gate into the woodland. Walk around this gate (point B on the plan below) and walk straight on for about 500 meters.

The track then bends around to the right. Continue up the track and after about 50 metres you will see a wooden post on your left with a white painted top. This is point C on the plan below and Artists Wood is beyond it on the left.

The southern boundary is the agricultural fence with fields beyond.

The north western boundary is the western edge of the track and footpath.

The north eastern boundary is indicated by wooden posts with white painted tops.

The woodland comes with full sporting rights and these are included in the sale.

These are owned and included in the sale except where reserved by statute.

There is a right of way for Artists Wood over the access route ABC.

There is a public footpath running along the boundary CD.
