Description:

Leechpool Wood is a small amenity woodland with a sheltered paddock adjacent. A stream (a tributary of the Arun) meanders its way along the boundary of the wood and  then exits the property and runs just outside the paddock fence. There is a pond in the paddock that was originally fed by the stream, and could so again with a small amount of excavation.

All the trees in the woodland and three trees in the paddock are subject to a council Tree Preservation Order. This does not prevent good woodland management, but any felling or pruning must be approved by the council tree officer in advance.

The woodland contains a fascinating mixture of tree species of varying ages. The canopy is dominated by large mature Oak and Corsican Pine, but there are many other species present including Ash, Alder, Sweet Chestnut, Beech, Hornbeam, Sycamore, Birch, Hazel and Willow. The understorey is heavily dominated by Holly and the woodland would benefit from a degree of its clearance.

The property is accessed through its own private gate, from a private road (Hampers Lane) which is located in a residential area on the eastern edge of Horsham. Through the gate you enter the paddock area, which would be ideal for grazing a pony. The woodland is then accessed from one end of the paddock, over the stream.

There is a small pedestrian access at the back of the woodland onto a bridle path, but there is no public access inside the woodland. There is a right of way for the woodland along the bridle path, and this could possibly be used as a machinery access route if it is ever needed.

Directions:

Leave Horsham on the B2195 (A264) in the direction signed for Crawley and Gatwick. At the second roundabout take the third exit into Comptons Lane, signed for Forest Community School.

After about ¼ mile turn left at the mini roundabout into Hampers Lane.

Continue down this road, across the cross roads, past our first ‘For Sale’ sign on a telegraph pole until you see a gate in front of you with another of our signs on. This is the gate to the property.

Please park carefully where you do not obstruct the road.
