Description:

Big Ings Wood is the perfect little sporting woodland. It is close to the A1 (15 miles), yet very peaceful, just outside the attractive village of Easingwold.

The woodland is largely stocked with mature Lodgepole Pine, growing well on the acid sandy loam. Much of the woodland was recently thinned, leaving it at ‘final crop spacing’. However the southern section did not receive this treatment and could be thinned in the near future or alternatively grown on at its current stocking density.

The woodland contains a 0.5 acre lake with two islands. Fishing stands have been constructed around the edge, but the lake is not currently stocked. The lake attracts large numbers of duck which have been regularly shot in the recent past.

The woodland is surrounded by agricultural land, much of which is under tillage, and provides good feeding for the large numbers of wood pigeons that roost in the trees every night.

A small area has been cleared of trees after recent storm damage, and this area remains clear and unplanted. An opportunity for the new owner to replant with either pine or an alternative species, or even to keep it clear of trees for other uses.

The woodland is crossed by two fast flowing streams/drainage channels, which not only provide a good water supply for the lake, but may also offer a supply for further pond or lake construction.

Directions:

From York: head north off the A1237 ring road on the A19.

After 10 miles turn right at the roundabout signed for Easingwold.

Continue into the centre of the town, and then turn right following signs for Stillington.

1½ miles out of the village of Eastingwold take the first turn right onto Green Lane.

Less than ½ mile down this road you will see our ‘For Sale’ sign on a tree on your left hand side. This is the beginning of Big Ings Wood.

If you continue a short way further you will come to the woodland gate with another of our signs attached.
